In 1946, James Moody joined the bebop big band of Dizzy Gilespie where his now legendary solo on Emanon alerted jazz fans to an emerging world-class soloist. He had a seven year stint in the Las Vegas Hilton Orchestra, doing shows for big name stars such as Bill Cosby, Ann-Margaret, Glen Campbell, Elvis Presley, Eddie Fisher, Steve & Edie Gorme, and Lisa Minnelli to name a few. Moody has received many honors including the prestigious Jazz Masters Fellowship Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Living Jazz Legend Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts and induction in to the International Jazz Hall of Fame. In 2008, at 83, James Moody remains one of the most sought after artists for master classes, workshops, and lectures.
